Shaye Ruecker is a marketing consultant from Regina and has harbored a lifelong passion for anything video games. With the knowledge and passion for the video game industry, he's worked with game developers, content creators and streamers to help them identify opportunities and achieve their goals in the niche but growing space.
Elizabeth Lawson is a secondary educator who has been working on Treaty 6 Territory for the past 10 years. Prior to this, she taught internationally in South Korea. Throughout her career in education, Elizabeth has focused on helping high school students find community and grow relationships with other students, be it through wrestling, yearbook, or most recently, Esports. Passionate about gaming, Elizabeth sees Esports as being an integral part of helping students build resilience and develop their ability to be part of a team. Currently, Elizabeth teaches in both an online and face-to-face format, where she works with students to explore the world around them through current events, and by a historical analysis of past trends. Most recently she has designed an English 10 class that combines analyzing video games and understanding the social impact of the online gaming community. Elizabeth holds a B.Ed (Secondary Social Studies) and a B.A in History (International) from the University of Regina. Elizabeth currently lives in Saskatoon with her husband and her three dogs, where they can often be found playing a variety of video and board games.
Brandon is an HR professional with a decade of experience in learning and development, career management, and HR tech. Brandon is an avid Smash fan who proudly occupies the “too good for casual play, not good enough for competitive” space. When not taking care of his two cats, Brandon collects retro video games and manages the world’s most mediocre fantasy hockey team.
As a CPA with a wealth of knowledge and experience, Evan has been able to use these talents to help non profit organizations successfully navigate their financial operations. Evan has been a long time gamer, playing many of the early esports titles. He joined SEA to bring his professional knowledge and passion together for the growth of the esports industry in Saskatchewan.
Mark is a business management consultant and highly knowledgeable expert in the video LAN gaming and esports industries, with a wealth of experience as the founder of one of North America's longest-running LAN gaming facilities, The Matrix Gaming Centre, located in Regina, Saskatchewan. Over the years, he has organized countless grassroots esports tournaments, with the highlight being the largest ever Fortnite tournament in Canada, The Saskatchewan Fortnite Championship, which took place at the Queen City Ex in the summer of 2019. Mark deeply understands the gaming community and the culture surrounding grassroots competitive scenes, as well as the challenges that come with running a successful gaming centre. Although The Matrix had to close its doors in March 2020 due to Covid-19 after nearly 18 years of operation, Mark remains dedicated to finding new ways to serve the industry and support gamers in his community. With extensive non-profit experience serving on numerous boards, Mark is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of these industries and make a positive impact on the gaming community.
Tristan Keshane is a visionary entrepreneur and the founder of Treaty 4 Esports, an organization that provides a safe and accessible platform for indigenous youth in Saskatchewan to participate in esports. Through Tristan's leadership, Treaty 4 Esports has hosted numerous tournaments and events that have grown in popularity, creating exciting opportunities for indigenous gamers to showcase their skills. By harnessing the power of esports, Tristan is helping to promote community engagement and provide young people with a positive and empowering outlet for their competitive energy. His dedication to creating a safe and inclusive environment for indigenous gamers is an inspiration to many, and he is committed to expanding Treaty 4 Esports' reach and impact in the years to come.
Matt Zomer is a Humanities instructor at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame. His involvement in gaming dates back to the 90s, where his dreams of becoming the World GoldenEye Champion were crushed by his older brother. Matt’s educational career prior to working in Wilcox, SK includes both public and private institutions in the United Kingdom, Northern Saskatchewan and Ontario. In 2020, with support from Derrick Schultz and Brad Best, he started the Esports club at Notre Dame. Matt’s main focus was to provide a place for students, who were not connected to the hockey or high school sport programming, to excel and build their soft skill set. Matt is looking forward to being part of the rapidly growing Esport landscape in Saskatchewan with the hopes of establishing a provincial league.
Zoe is a Lead Software Developer working out of Vancouver, focusing on ADA standardization to bring accessibility to software and the web for users with support needs. She has worked with organizations like Women Who Code and supports initiatives that empower women through education and independence. Passionate about mentoring, Zoe is always taking a step to build an inclusive and vibrant community that uses technology for learning, building, and entertainment.
Matthew Barton is a communications professional and lifelong storyteller in a variety of mediums. He tried to make a text-based MUD game on a monochrome Commodore 64 in highschool and the furthest he got in competitive e-sports was last place in a local Starcraft II tournament in 2012 (darn Zerg rush).
Jody is a lawyer and mom to a competitive gamer. Jody learned on the fly the challenges faced by the many talented gamers in the province who are committed to esports and competitive gaming. Jody is passionate about helping others gain a better understanding of the benefits of esports and clarify some of the many misconceptions about what it means to be a gamer. She is excited about being able to be a part of creating opportunities for Saskatchewan gamers in the future and to help enhance awareness and growth of the esports community in Saskatchewan.
Garter (Beezy) is an esports professional as a competitor in Super Smash Bros. Melee as one of the best players in Saskatchewan, being ranked 1st on the Saskatchewan Power Rankings since 2021. Outside of his professional career, Carter is a business student at the U of R. He also loves his cat very much.
Darcy is an experienced business consultant who has been a part of the tech industry for decades. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in driving growth and innovation in the Saskatchewan tech industry. As the current executive director of Saskatchewan Interactive, Darcy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. With his unique insight and strategic vision, Darcy is well-positioned to make a significant contribution to the development of the esports industry in the province.
Levi is a recent graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, where he majored in Marketing. His esports journey started in university, when he joined the University of Saskatchewan's Esports Club as the Valorant Team Manager. Levi later took on the role of Club President in his final year, where he led the growth of the collegiate esports scene in Saskatchewan. Even after graduation, Levi remains actively engaged with the club's leadership and continues to support the club's growth.
